Bipolar disorder manic/mania/hospital!
August 14, 2008 3:32 pm ManiaA very close friend of mine was just in the hospital for ten days- he had a manic episode. This is only his second in over ten years. They can sneak up on you so fast.
August is the most dangerous month for mania- for those of us above the equator!
If you think you’re getting manic or you see the signs in someone that they are having a manic episode, you can go to the menu on the right and click on the manic button- it will show you all of my past mania blogs. The manic button is the panic button!
I had a hypomanic episode a few weeks ago. Now I’m in a depressed episode.
It is AWFUL! This illness isn’t fair, but I’m here writing on this blog. I got out of bed and I’m going to get on with my day. We can function during most mood swings- but mania is tricky!

Hi Julie, I’m an avid writer (un-published) turned blogger and have had major mood issues/swings my entire life. I’m 39 and over the course of my life I’ve been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ADD, exercise bulimia, you name it. Antidepressents never worked - they made me more OCD. I’ve been taking 30 mgs of Dextroamphetimine for Adult ADD for the past 4 years. Its kept me somewhat stable and helped me focus more BUT my brain chatter, freak outs/panic attacks, confusion, paranoia, OCD etc haven’t stopped.
I recently had a major freak out and am on medical leave from work. I found your blog today after my Dr. said I may have “psychosis”. The brain chatter you mention in one of your posts is something I’ve been dealing with daily. In fact, I thought I was the only one dealing with that until I read it on your blog! I blogged about that on my blog last week!
I had told my Psychiatrist, my D-Amp script writer, about the negative thoughts and words I keep hearing and he said I just need to think positive and put me on Klonopin. Suffice to say, I’m looking for another dr. so I can get another opinion. I’ve been tracking everything since I had my major freak out in July…if you want to read the details.
Anyway, do you know a good dr. that can properly diagnose me? I’m in Seattle. Maybe you could check out my blog sometime. (if you want to feel normal). :o)
I mentioned your blog in my posting today. It helped me to find your blog today. Thank you for putting a face with your illness; its embarrasing for me to claim my issues, but it feels better knowing I’m not the only one. Thanks for that. TAH
