Here is a post I wrote when Britney Spears was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Do you think she should come out in the open and talk about the illlness? Or do we expect too much of celebrities? There is no reason they have to be role models. The topic is still interesting as she seemed to do so well and then she was pretty out of it again. If you saw her performaces of recent TV shows such as Good Morning America, she didn’t look well. Who knows!

What’s worse than being replaced by Ashton Kutcher? How about having your character die a fiery death. Word around Tinseltown is that Sheen’s character on “Two and a Half Men” could be killed off in the coming season…… *

Wow. Do they have to kill off his character? I know he has broken a lot of promises and people are really mad, but killing off his character is a bit harsh.

As you know if you read this blog, I don’t believe people should be punished for getting manic.  I had hoped Charlie Sheen would go down enough to get help, but it just goes on and on.

Julie Fast Talks About Charlie Sheen and Bipolar Mania

Charlie Sheen’s story took over the US media for a few months this year. Everyone wanted to interview the man who was saying ‘crazy’ things! Of course, those of us with bipolar disorder could see it was  mania, but the world just kept on exploiting what they called the Charlie Sheen circus. Mania is like a circus!

Charlie Sheen and Mania Revisited

I’m spending some time finding out what is currently going on with Charlie Sheen. I came across an interiew he did right when he was manic.  I watch the interviewer and I think- what is going through your head! Can’t you see this is an ill man? He isn’t even making sense.

He has now lost his job, most of his friends, his father Martin Sheen said he could not help him.

What’s next?  Do you know what’s going on with him now? I would love an update.  I will keep you posted on what I find out.

Does Catherine Zeta Jones have a responsibility to spread the word and help others with bipolar disorder?

Great question: My friend Marsha and I went round and round with this one. She feels that celebrities with bi-polar disorder have a responsibility to be role models. Even thought I completely see her side, I think it’s wishful thinking.

It’s true that that celebrity endorsements work much better than the stories of ‘real people’ when it comes to getting the word out about bipolar disorder. In one simple statement that she has bipolar two and is getting treatment, Catherine Zeta Jones made it ok for even more people to say they have the illness. But does this means she has to talk about it in the press each time she is in public? In fact, do you think she has a responsibility to talk about it at all?
