Watch out for mania- all summer long

“Well, even in that deep misery I felt my energy revive, and I said to myself: in spite of everything I shall rise again, I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing, and from that moment everything has seemed transformed in me.”  Vincent Van Gogh
I love this quote from Van Gogh for so many reasons- he had such a tough time.  He was depressed for months and months and then he would get better and paint such beautiful pictures- and it did seem that all was transformed.  That is what bipolar disorder does. It tricks us unless we know what is coming.

In the summer, mania is what shows up for so many people.

It’s important that we ALL see mania for what it is- right from the beginning. It is not a wonderful thing. All of us with bipolar disorder and all of us who love someone with bipolar disorder know this for sure:

What goes up ALWAYS comes down.

Be careful. Know the signs and stay healthy this summer.

What is your very first sign of mania? If you can write this down now- tell everyone you know and then look for this one sign, you can often stop mania before it goes too far.
