The Actress Glenn Close and Family Tackle the Stigma of Mental Illness.
I knew that Glenn Close’s sister Jessie has bipolar disorder. I didn’t know that Jessie’s son Calen has schizoaffective disorder. That is a lot for one family, but not uncommon at all. I’m glad to see people who are well known use their platform to say the words….
BIPOLAR DISORDER
SCHIZO AFFECTIVE DISORER
SCHIZOPHRENIA
in such an open way. Hallelujah! When I was diagnosed in 1995, most people didn’t know the term bipolar disorder, including myself!
Here is the article about Glenn Close and her family. If you are outside the states, Glenn Close is considered one of the best actresses in the US and has moved from movies to a successful television show.

Brilliant to see a high profile family actively supporting their relatives with mental illness. This is a big part that I missed out on. My (late) husband, a doctor was 1st diagnosed in 1984/85, when our 4 children were 1,3,5 &7 years old. They knew only a mentally ill dad for all of their lives. With family dysfunctions, they had less chance.
A Butterfly Landed An Eagle is my story. I hope my hindsight can be used as foresight, for informed, better choices & less mistakes,to protect from and prevent emotional damage. Didn’t know I had to protect my offspring from their own dad and grandparents…
My proceeds go to World Visions Rescue of enslaved, abused, emotionally damaged children. Thanks
I am married to a man who has bi-polar and has been regulated with some very good meds and has not had any bi-polar or manic depression in well over 7 years , thanks to an absolutely brilliant Doctor in New York.
The stigma is on people who refuse help.
With help they can live a normal life – I know I am living with this wonderful man!
