I take a lot of Lamictal for my bipolar disorder. (My dose is really high: 700 mg)
This can be hard on the system if I only take it during the day. I now have it on a 24 hour cycle. I take half throughout the day and then take the rest throughout the night.
It’s hard to keep track of bipolar meds- I find it very frustrating, upsetting, worrisome, etc when I look at my daily bottle and all the meds are sitting there. I forgot to take them! That happens rarely, but it’s still a problem.
Here’s what I do to remember my meds. I have an empty bottle that I fill every day with my Lamictal dose. I put that in my bag and take the half of the meds. Then I come home and empty the bottle on my counter next to a glass of water. I take a pill, then leave the rest for when I wake up in the night to go to the bathroom. It helps a lot to space the dose out this way. I don’t get the stiff neck and twitches!
If you have a lot of meds to take- a mood stabilizer, an anti psychotic, etc. the side effects can be intense. Check with your health care professional and see if you can do the 24 hour dose process.
It sure helped me!

Hi Julie,
My question to you is unrelated to your post, so I hope you don’t mind. I am wondering if you have written about Bi-Polar and pregnancy. I have searched for resources for women who are Bi-Polar and looking to become pregnant. There seems to not be a lot of books or online resources written regarding that topic. It would be great if you could share any knowledge you have.
Thanks,
Contemplating Pregnancy
I only want to purchase health cards Can this be done?
Hi Robert,
You can defintely just order the Health Cards. They come in a system of three books. If you go to the menu at the top of the blog page and click on the Bipolar Health Cards link. This will take you to the sales page. When you scroll to the bottom, you will see the eBook option and the hard copy option. The hard copies come with the eBooks as well.)
I love the Health Cards. I use them every day.

certainly tough to remember, I don’t have much trouble anymore, I got a dinky 7 day pill container, and keep it next to my toothbrush on my vanity sink.
So it makes it easy to remember, cos you gotta go passed it to get to the loo and its there to remind me when I’m washing my hands and brushing my teeth. So its very rare that I forget them these days, thank goodness!
Hi Julie,
Thanks heaps for this blog. I have a stiff neck all the time (which I had simply put down to stress) and even twitch in my sleep (or so my husband tells me). I hadn’t considered that it was from the lamicatal (thank goodness I finally got on it thanks to you). Despite these side effects I have been so much better since being on it. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!
