Julie, few years back I bought the Card System (in Spanish) to help with the treatment of my younger brother’s bipolar. Now I’m writting because of my 20 year-old grandson’s bipolar.

Our Shane was diagnosed with hyperactivity and started to be treated at a very young age. By the time he was 14 he was also diagnosed with bipolar. He was liiving in Tenn and was seen for many years by a pschiatrist there. Shane also got Social Security and Medicaid. Now he lives with his father, step-mom, and young sister in MD.

Due to this move from one State to another, when the time came to go to the Social Security Admin to have his address changed all sorts of problems also came up. First, the MD Social Security Admin needed a new evaluation by a local pschiatrist–which took almost 2 months because it seems that today fewer doctors take medicaid patients. At any rate, without taking any tests this new pschiatrist has diagnosed Shane differently–he says that instead of bipolar he has Explosive Personality Disorder.

Don’t know what this means, but wonder why in a single visit one doctor can change a previous diagnosis made by a doctor that treated my grandson for many years.

Aat any rate, my questions are:
Does anyone know if the treatment for explosive personality disorder the same as for bipolar?
Does anyone know if explosive personality disorder easier to treat than bipolar?
Does anyone know what’s the success rate in the treatment of explosive personality disorder vs bipolar?

In view of the new diagnosis i also have further questions: Does anyone know if Shane will continue to get Social Security and Medicaid?

    Thanks,
    Marisa
