Kirstie and Maks: Bipolar Disorder Weight Loss Inspiration!

Sometimes a picture does more than any book:  Kirstie  Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy on Dancing with the Stars. I know she doesn’t have bipolar, but… she has had a lot of very honest conversations about her weight issues. I admire that.

Kirsty looks great- and of course, Maks never needs to change! (Yes, I’m a DWTS geek!)

So many of us with bipolar disorder, myself included struggle with our weight. I like looking at pictures of someone who is doing something about it! We probably can’t dance for a zillion hours every day- but we can walk and do all of the other good stuff!

  • Hi Julie,
I admire your work greatly. However, on the issue of weight you are WAY off base. Especially with the medications that cause weight gain, it is important to focus on healthy lifestyles, NOT WEIGHT.

Body size is not a proxy for health. People with healthy lifestyles have better health, even at diverse weights.

We need to shift from a weight centered approach to a focus on healthy lifestyle with body diversity acceptance. See this article in National Geographic for information on the new peace movement, a new health paradigm called “Health At Every Size

Yr right after yr, I acquired a pound or two or five. It was a slow transition and I barely observed it (or at least refused to acknowledge it). Exact same with my growing ranges of lethargy and fatigue. Ultimately however, enough was sufficient, and like so numerous folks I tried a couple of diverse diet programs. I experimented with “viewing what I eat” very first. That had NO Impact at all.
